Comparing energy deals

- Know your usage. Find your yearly kWh on a recent bill. A comparison is only as good as the numbers you put in.
- Fixed or variable? A fixed tariff keeps your unit rate the same for the term. A variable one moves with the Ofgem price cap, which is reviewed every three months.
- Look at the standing charge as well as the unit rate. Low users can be better off with a lower standing charge.
- Use accredited comparison sites. Sites under Ofgem's Confidence Code must show the market fairly.
- Check exit fees before fixing, in case prices fall later.
Prices and offers change often. Always check the final price on the retailer's site. Some links on ClickAndPerk are affiliate links; see How we make money.
