Buying a games console: digital or disc?
By ClickAndPerk · updated 7 November 2026
- Disc editions let you buy, sell and borrow physical games, which are often cheaper second-hand.
- Digital editions cost less upfront, but every game is bought from the online store.
- Storage fills fast. Large games can take 100 GB or more, so budget for extra storage if you play a lot.
- Bundles with a game included can be good value, but only if it's a game you want.
- Buy from authorised retailers, and be wary of marketplace prices far below the norm.
Prices and offers change often. Always check the final price on the retailer's site. Some links on ClickAndPerk are affiliate links; see How we make money.
