Switching broadband: a quick checklist

• Check your contract end date in your provider's account or app. Leaving early can mean exit fees.
• Check real speeds at your address, not just the headline. Availability checkers show what your postcode can get.
• Look at the full cost over the whole contract, including set-up fees and any yearly price rises shown at sign-up.
• Your new provider leads the switch for most home broadband: you sign up with them and they arrange the move.
• Ask about social tariffs if you receive certain benefits. Many providers offer cheaper plans.
